*NEWS*
* 200 CLUB *
Following the last draw of 2008, made at the village Christmas lunch, the list of 200 Club prizewinners has been updated.
* VILLAGE HALL NEWSLETTER *
The Autumn 2008 edition of the Village Hall newsletter has been circulated.
* PULVERBATCH HOME GUARD *
Taken from Tom Thorne's history of Pulverbatch during the second world war, is this account of the Pulverbatch Home Guard.
* KNAPP INTERPRETATION BOARD *
A new interpretation board for the motte and double bailey castle on the Knapp has now been installed by the Friends of Castle Pulverbatch. This has been funded by English Heritage and is intended to increase awareness of the historic value and excellent habitat for wildlife that the Ancient Monument provides. Two full colour postcards, produced from images painted by Tessa Parker, are now available.
* RECYCLE PLASTIC BOTTLE CAPS *
Collect all the plastic caps from your bottles for recycling. Deliver them by the bagful to the Royal Mail Customer Services office on Castle Foregate where Mike Loveridge will sell them for recycling and donate the proceeds to charity.
* WANTED *
A local person to understudy the Pulverbatch webmaster with a view to taking over the village website once property conditions permit.
* PHOTO GALLERIES *
Photo galleries have now been established for all things (and people) remotely connected with Pulverbatch to which anyone may post their pictures. In particular, any old pictures of the parish would be really useful for the historic section. Please email any contribution to Andrew Wood or deliver prints to Home Farm (with a note of your name and address to ensure their return) so they may be scanned.
Welcome
The purpose of the website is to provide an open means of communication for any group in the parish who wishes to make use of it and to provide visitors or residents with local information.
It will have as many sections or pages as there is demand for with links to the rest of the site as well as links to other relevant local sites. There is a brief description of the parish together with some village history and views both past and present. A location map indicates the position of Pulverbatch in the northern foothills of the Long Mynd. There is an hourly bus service for six days a week from Shrewsbury to Pulverbatch. (Click here for the geological history of the area.)
Any group, formal or otherwise, can have its own page with sub-pages if they wish, to explain what they do, when and where they meet, who to contact, extra information about a particular event, or anything else they may wish to let people know about. Someone with an idea for a local organisation that doesn't yet exist (eg a local history society?) could float it here and see what support emerges.
The site has been deliberately kept simple to make it quicker to load and easier to read and use. However, it is a first attempt and the intention is to maintain, update and improve it as time passes. All comments, criticisms, complaints, suggestions or material for content or even positive remarks are welcomed by the webmaster; or call Andrew Wood on 718668.
