Pulverbatch

Welcome to Pulverbatch

*NEWS*

* PARISH PLAN *
Church Pulverbatch Parish Council is considering a Parish Plan.

The Councillors would like to hear from residents regarding their views on how they would like to see the parish in the future. About what housing development and any other issues that they are interested in. Please speak to any of the Councillors or the clerk - see Parish Council for contact details - with any helpful suggestions prior to the next council meeting on 23rd September.

This is YOUR chance to have YOUR say about the future of YOUR parish.

* MOBILE LIBRARY SURVEY *
Shropshire Council are undertaking a survey about the mobile library service. The Parish Council has completed one for the village but local residents are encouraged to make their opinions known too. To do this, complete the survey form and send it to James Anthony-Edwards or mail it to:

* VILLAGE HALL *
The Village Hall has been awarded a Local Joint Committee grant of £1,800 towards the refurbishment of the hall. This sum is earmarked for some new chairs, lightweight tables, carpet replacement and paint for redecorating the interior.

The Village Hall accounts for 2009 are now accessible from the Village Hall page.

* SPRING VILLAGE HALL NEWSLETTER *
The Spring Village Hall newsletter is now accessible from the Village Hall page.

* ROAD MARKINGS *
Questions have been raised about the apparently random white lines, some at the side of the road and some down the centre, newly painted on the resurfaced stretch of road between Pulverbatch and Longden Common. The Shropshire Highways Manager says:
The Council's traffic engineers advised on the latest standard of lining appropriate, particularly through the narrower section between Wrentnall and Longden Common. The edge lines are specified where the width of road is below the required minimum for provision of a centre line. Centre lines are provided where the minimum road width is met.
So now you know.

* SPEED LIMIT *
Hopefully, everyone has noticed that we have recently acquired a 30mph speed limit on the main road through the village. All road users are asked to respect this to reduce the risk to young and old pedestrians.

* DOG FOULING *
The Knapp at Castle Pulverbatch is becoming increasingly marred by dog fouling. Please will owners walking their dogs there, clean up after them and place the bags in the litter bin thoughtfully provided for this purpose by Shropshire Council.

* FOUR THINGS YOU PROBABLY DID NOT KNOW YOU COULD DO WITH YOUR MOBILE *
Some very useful tips on how to benefit from your mobile phone's hidden abilities in an emergency have been added to the Emergencies page. Everyone should learn these off by heart for when disaster strikes.

* NEW - WILDLIFE GARDENING *
Tips for managing your garden in a wildlife friendly way will be updated each month. Click here for July's tips or on wildlife gardening in the menu bar.

* TIPS FOR DEALING WITH UNSOLICITED MAIL OR CALLS *
Learn how to take revenge on telemarketers or those who send junk mail.
You can also register for FREE your address, phone number and fax number with the Mailing Preference Service to stop receiving unsolicited sales mailings or calls.

Welcome

The purpose of the website is to provide an open means of communication for any group in the parish who wishes to make use of it and to provide visitors or residents with local information.

It will have as many sections or pages as there is demand for with links to the rest of the site as well as links to other relevant local sites. There is a brief description of the parish together with some village history and views both past and present. A location map indicates the position of Pulverbatch in the northern foothills of the Long Mynd. There is an hourly bus service for six days a week from Shrewsbury to Pulverbatch. (Click here for the geological history of the area.)

Any group, formal or otherwise, can have its own page with sub-pages if they wish, to explain what they do, when and where they meet, who to contact, extra information about a particular event, or anything else they may wish to let people know about. Someone with an idea for a local organisation that doesn't yet exist (eg a local history society?) could float it here and see what support emerges.

The site has been deliberately kept simple to make it quicker to load and easier to read and use. However, it is a first attempt and the intention is to maintain, update and improve it as time passes. All comments, criticisms, complaints, suggestions or material for content or even positive remarks are welcomed by the webmaster; or call Andrew Wood on 718668.
