*NEWS*

* PARISH PLAN QUESTIONNAIRE *
There will be a launch party for the parish plan questionnaire, probably on 10th March between 5-8pm, with free wine/beer/nibbles, plus maybe some entertainment for kids between 5-6pm.

* QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE *
There will be a a grand village party to celebrate this occasion on Tuesday 5th June. Full details to follow but the format will be similar to the Royal Wedding do last year. Keep the evening free and watch for more information. This will be an event the entire village can celebrate. If there is interest, we may also be able to join in with our very own Jubilee beacon the previous evening.

* HIGH SPEED BROADBAND NOW AVAILABLE IN PULVERBATCH *
A company called Unitron are now offering a microwave system giving up to 50Mbps download speeds with up to 5Mbps upload speeds. And it works; there is at least one intallation in the village meeting the advertised speeds. There is a significant cost and it does need line of sight to the transmitter but if you do need or want dramatically improved internet performance, it is here now. Call John Shaw on 0845 5191873 or see their website.

* RENEWING YOUR BUS PASS *
In 2009 Shropshire Council issued thousands of people with new concessionary bus passes. These were issued with a 3 year life span and are therefore, coming up for renewal during the next 12 months. You need to be aware of the need to check the expiry date on your pass and apply for a replacement at the appropriate time if you require one.

* 546 BUS SERVICE *
There are two proposals for a revised, and much reduced, 546 bus service to the village. You have the opportunity to have your say on this now.

* WHITE HORSE INN *
The pub is now up for sale for around £275,000 freehold. Any takers?

* TRAFFIC REPORT *
A new traffic page, accessed from the menu bar, gives a direct link to local traffic information in and around Shropshire. This is updated about every 5 minutes.

* RURAL BROADBAND UPDATE *
There appears to be money becoming available to upgrade broadband for us second class citizens who live in the country. See this Rural Broadband Update for details, but don't hold your breath - it will take until at least the end of 2016!

* WINTER SKITTLES *
Please note these dates for family skittles evenings this winter, starting at 7.30pm:
Saturday 21st January
Saturday 25th February
Saturday 24th March
Don't forget to bring your own drinks and snacks.

* LOW ENERGY LIGHT BULBS *
Used energy saving light bulbs are classed as “Hazardous Waste” as they contain Mercury. Mercury should not go into landfill, due to the contamination it would cause. As such, when bulbs are recycled, the Mercury element can be safely removed, allowing for correct disposal, or reuse. Used energy saving light bulbs also contain material (rare earth phosphors) that can be removed within the recycling process and used again. These phosphors, are only found in a few places on Earth and cannot be replaced by a man-made substitute.

Shropshire Council would prefer you to recycle these bulbs and they can be taken to the recycling depot at Battlefield; there are also non-council recycling points at Homebase, Sundorne Retail Park and Links Electrical Supplies Ltd., 3, Knight Park, Knights way, Battlefield Enterprise Park.
